blue__monday @ 07:17 pm: Alliance Meeting for the...12th?
[OOC: Yes, I know, this is late. I have school that is killing me. It'll get better this summer. Probably. Also, new format!tryout. Since we never actually finish a meeting, instead of a break we're going to try out just talking everything out in the first half and then people can stick around to socialize afterwards.]

Monday sits down as people gather, waiting for her to start. Her seat on the table has come to be an accepted start to the meeting. "All right, guys. Tonight we're talking about bisexuality." She waves her hand. "Exciting and trendy! Scary and controversial!" She cuts out the cheery act with a sudden deadpan. "Or possibly just another sexuality. Here's the place to ask questions. Nothing is too stupid to ask, and I want those of you who've been asked these questions a million times to take that into consideration. I know it gets fucking annoying. Educate."

She looks around. "Also, I'd like it if we could just talk about stuff. This is a safe place, it's a place where people should feel welcome. If you think someone's being a militant bisexual or a closed-minded asshole, please politely tell them they've overstepped their bounds, or even better, just do what they should have done in the first place and discuss things instead of making everyone more angry."

She gestures to the group.
"Okay, guys. Take it away."

Paul knows all this stuff, but in the interest of actually having a discussion topic, he grins easily and says, "What's bisexuality?" He leans back on the couch and wonders who'll pick that one up.

Miranda laughs, "When people will only have sex with bipeds? Could that maybe be it?"

"Nah guys, it's when you'll only have sex with sorority sisters. Everyone who joins a sorority is required to change their sexuality, duhh." Brooklyn rolled his eyes, and laughed. "Oh but wait, we better stop. Someone is going to get upset, and tell us we're 'overstepping our boundries' by trying to make a joke and not be uptight."

Seb looked at Brooklyn. Is he deliberately trying to cause another fight? He sat up a little straighter, deciding to step in before anyone else could.

"Well, that's kind of valid. I mean, there are those girls who do say they're 'bisexual' and make out with girls to impress their boyfriends. Or there are those tshirts from Valley Girl or whatever that say 'I kiss girls' and when you ask them if they're gay or how long they've known they are, they become offended and say they aren't."

Chase nods, "Yeah. That's...odd. I do think bisexuality exists. Totally. Everyone is kind of on this floating scale in my head. In my opinion, at least. Like, 99/1, 45/55, whatever. You know?"

She breathes in, "Like no one is totally straight or gay, there's that one person in the galaxy that you could overlook the physical preferences you have for? Maybe I just like to be 'fair' or something... But it freaks me out that being bi is hip, to attract the attention of the opposite sex. I mean, c'mon."

"Yeah, but stupid things become hip. It was hip to get butterfly tattoos..although I don't know why, so I bet 95% of the girls who have butterfly tattoos pretend to be bi after they kissed one girl at some party when they were smashed."

Meg grins. "Probably 100% of girls with Chelsea haircuts and butterfly tattoos...on the small of their backs..." She pauses for a moment. "Although I'm not sure those are the same crowds, really."

She was going to say something, and she reorganizes. "Actually, what I was going to say to Chase, earlier, is that her scale exists, already. There was this guy in the 60s -- if you've seen the movie Kinsey, you know who I'm talking about.

"He developed a scale of sexuality. He said that some people exist at one end or another, attracted to just opposite or same genders, but most people stray somewhat towards the middle. Whether that means that they like one person of the opposite gender or same gender, or 50/50, or 60/40, or whatever. There's an entire spectrum." She considered this. "I think he's right. I mean, I like girls, but I don't like them as much as I like guys."

Jonny brings up, "What about all those people who think bisexuality is just, you know, people who aren't making up their mind? I'm not saying I'm one of them, but it makes a certain amount of sense to me. Like -- why would someone want to admit they were gay in this day and age? I can see why some people would say they were bi if they were scared to come out. And it might be easier to tell families -- there's still the chance your kid'll, whatever, have grandkids for you, or whatever...That's rough shit to deal with."

He feels a little stupid as soon as he's done talking. It made sense in his head, but now he feels like the bisexuals all think he doesn't believe they exist, or something. He shrugs randomly.
